Thanks to A Song For Us for featuring the DARDIS track 'Closed Eyes In The Black Eyes Of Sleep' on their website. You can listen to the track and read a bit about the background of its composition.
A national music project marking this historic time, A Song for Us celebrates our communities and the power of music to bring us together. Conceived and produced by Sound UK, A Song for Us uses music to bear testimony to a time like no other, collecitng music that encapsulates the wide range of experiences and emotions we are living through, creating a musical time capsule of what we all desperately hope will be a once in a generation event. Thanks to Rick Lupert for including my poem 'Pikuach Nefesh' in Poetry Super Highway's 23rd Annual Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) Poetry Issue.
Pikuach nefesh is the principle in Jewish law that the preservation of human life overrides virtually any other religious rule. The opening line of the poem is an extract from the mourner's Kaddish.
Big thanks to University of Atypical for selecting me as one of this year's recipients for their Individual Disabled Artist (iDA) Awards. The award will go towards assisting me in developing what I hope will become my next poetry collection!
I hope I can do well by UoA and help honour the memory of previous CEO Chris Ledger, who was a great support to me, as she was to so many others. The iDA funding programme is a dedicated annual arts development scheme enabling deaf and disabled artists who are working in a range of art forms to develop their professional artistic careers. The awards provide valuable opportunities for award recipients to produce new high-quality creative work, receive training or professional mentoring.
Here's the video to watch back from the Fly on the Wall Press Performance group reading from Sunday 19th July. Thank you everyone for listening live and all your kind words, and to editor Isabelle Kenyon for inviting me to read.
Colin Dardis reading from The Dogs of Humanity I've started the Fill Your Books! blog of micro-interviews with writers and creatives talking about their favourite books and authors.
During lockdown, things were on pause as life demanded focus elsewhere. But now new interviews are online; each interview consists of five questions, highlighting current and past reading habits. Recent interviewees include Maureen Boyle, Glen Wilson, Tanya Farrelly, Colin Hassard and David Butler. The blog is available at https://fillyourbooks.blogspot.com
